The Sherwood School has been included in an exciting Trailblazer project linked with the NHS to support children and families with emotional wellbeing. The aims of the project are prevention and promotion of early help. Our team of 16 schools are supported by our partners from South West London Health and Care Partnership [NHS]. Working alongside us is a Clinical Psychologist and an Education Wellbeing Practitioner who are both ready to work with families across our school. We have links to the School Nursing Service, to add further support for our families. Our aim is to ensure our pupils enjoy good emotional well being through accessing the advice and help they need.
Children's Wellbeing Practitioner
We would like to introduce our Children's Wellbeing Practitioner, Miss Ella Muldoon. Ella is available to meet with parents and carers and delivers half termly coffee mornings with a presentation on one of many common areas of need. Further information can be found below.
Merton Education Wellbeing Service is a service offering parents guidance and support from the earliest stages of concern around a range of common challenges. They work with parents of children from ages 3 to 11. NHS Wellbeing Practitioners offer ideas and can offer 1:1 sessions with parents to help with:
- Calmer routines and fewer conflicts at home
- Helping your child feel more confident in new situations or social settings
- Helping your child cope with fears, worries and build resilience
- Helping parents feel supported, reassured and not alone
They work with 100s of parents from our local schools’ each year. They believe that all parents can benefit from a space to reflect and think through evidence-based ideas and stratagies, and at an early stage. You don’t need to wait until things get more difficult for help. Over 90% of parents who engaged with the service made progress.
Recent parent feedback:
“Overall the support we received was fantastic. It felt like she took the time to understand our child and our family, they showed genuine interest and care. The support that was given felt personal and tailored to what we wanted support with, we got what we wanted out of each session rather than being given text book responses to our difficulties. Our appointments were flexible and fit around both our busy work schedules. Overall, our child is in a much better place due to these sessions, and their confidence has grown tremendously. We can't thank the service enough for the help.’
“I can see the improvement in my child's behaviour. I can see the changes, even though I was reluctant at the beginning, it helped. I can understand myself more and how to deal with certain emotions. Everything was very useful and very helpful (family rules, praise, logical consequences, emotions). Thank you, I am very happy that I met you. Some services it feels like they're doing their job but I know you were always interested in helping us.”
With best wishes,
Ella Muldoon
