Attendance

Regular attendance and punctuality at school is key to ensure that children do not miss out on important learning experiences and are able to make steady progress throughout the year. Schools are not able to authorise absence during term-time unless in exceptional circumstances. The Education Welfare Service requires us to obtain proof of medical appointments during school hours. Please hand in any appointment letters/cards at the office, so that we have a record and can authorise the absence from school. Alternatively, we can accept a doctor’s stamp on the home school diary or proof of prescribed medicine.

Should your child’s attendance fall below 95%, we will write to you to arrange an appointment to discuss, offer support and agree a way forward. Children whose attendance falls below 90% are considered as a 'persistent absentee'.

We use the same processes for attendance across the school, from the Early Years to Year 6, in order to help parents and their children build and maintain excellent levels of attendance, which have been shown to have a direct link to greater rates of progress and attainment.
